Not a problem. I saw your note to Ken too. Don't worry about ISDN at the moment, that's just a line connection, similar to your regular telephone connect, just a lot faster.
Set up your NIC (Network Interface Card) and don't worry about connecting the networking (box 1 to box 2), let's get the cards working in the computers first. Yes you are the SysAdm (welcome to the club <G>)
Use the RJ 45, make sure it's RJ 45 and not RJ 11 which is a regular telephone line. Difference, RJ 45 is wider than your RJ 11. The coaxial is handy if your installing wiring in walls, required for cose installation. It is also harder to "bend" or move around corners. I still prefer RJ 45 as a rule.
NetBouy is OK but not for your needs at the moment, TCP/IP if your using a router and connecting to the net via the router or want to set up your network with each unit as a separate IP, you don't need it yet, maybe later. Don't worry about either at the moment. Let's just go with the MS Network for now. This is the simplest for a peer to peer. You will still be able to use your "Dial Up" network to connect to the net.
Keep it simple for now, just get the NIC going, then connect them via the RJ 45, then make sure you can see the two units on your mini network. If this is ok, them try to dial in to the net via your normal connection (dial up network on Win95).
I think your reading to much into this at the moment, don't worry about the System Adim stuff. You'll need that when you go to a larger network and run a router to connect to the net for your multi units. Of course a lot will come with experience. Pretty soon you'll be a regualr IT........ |
