We humans are evolving quickly with regard to social justice and civil rights, but this evolution must be seen in the context and dynamic of two primary variables;

1) The collective consciousness of a democratic society to implement modern humanitarian social policy, and;

2) the power of the rich and powerful to thwart that policy.

And that has been the political dynamic for the last 100 years.

The Democrats, carrying the liberal banner of social progress, in constant conflict, with the Republicans opposing that evolution of though for the benefit of the rich who do not want to give up money or power to those evolved social ideals i.e. sharing their wealth or power through higher taxes.

And the tool the rich and powerful use to effect their policy is to use the power of the primitive and conservative cultures to capture the levers of power i.e. executive, congress and courts.

E.g. the Republicans used Lee Atwater's racist southern strategy to win the south. The same strategy they are still using today, but adding primitive conservative cultures who do not like or understand liberal or modern academic social ideology.

And as the foundation is simply the rich using the uneducated to do their bidding in the most crude and dangerous manner!

And as a result income inequality has widened constantly.
