Many years ago, before I even joined SI, I came up with a plan — cut the federal budget by 50% - over 5 years, and after that, over the following 10 years, cut it in half again. That would bring us where we need to be. What could convince pols to shrink their power? The answer is easy - nothing. The Founders designed the Constitution to keep government in check. We all know how that played out.
