Your idea of the common good is quite different from mine, irreconcilably so. That's why we have representative government--to sort that out and find a balance. Individuals get to pick and choose when to deviate and follow their own paths in day to day things when the impact of their choices don't significantly impact others. Any consequences are individual. But in a national emergency, we pull together. We are individuals living in civilization, stronger and safer together. Only spoiled brats don't get that.
