Your natural conclusion is - it's not time yet for US to join civilized world, as soon as we still have discussions that other developed countries concluded about 100 years ago.
May be, you are right, and we are destined to go backwards to dictatorship and oligarchy, join Russia and China in their club, and forget about democracy and decent healthcare for the all people.
