No, what you call "modern medicine" exists because the Rockefellers had immense influence and were able to exert that influence to replace real medicine with their patented petroleum derived substitutes. Why are Americans, by far the highest users of pharmaceuticals, the sickest population in the world? Why is the third leading cause of death "correctly prescribed medicine?"
