I haven't even looked at a NOVL quote for several months, nor a single article or press release on the subject of networking software since last Summer...so I really can't debate with you on the topic, but I do have a few comments.

>>>i saw a recent study that shows ms passing netware as the share leader of not only new sales (which ms dominates), but installed base by 2001.<<<

I would assume that projections such as these take into account that NOVL stands still and does nothing. Much depends on whether new CEO Schmidt can implement his plans to turn the company around. I'd have to wait until 2001 to see how the study truly pans out. Especially considering the huge installed customer base that Novell holds.

>>>novell nickled and dimed clients with their original ip implementation, and charges for to many add on products. not to mention novell could have long ago put on the gui interface.<<<

In interviews last Summer/Fall, Schmidt admitted he was disgusted with these very points and mismanagement by Novell's two prior CEOs. He is already implementing these changes. It's interesting to note that as of several months ago, Novell began developing new, and adapting existing, software to work WITH[in] Microsoft's NT, to use it's rival's success (strong growth) to Novell's advantage.

>>>unix is losing and continues to lose share because their will never be one or two or three or four or .... versions.<<<

I remember reading an article about this very subject, and there was mention of a new version of Unix to be introduced that a large % of the installed Unix market was holding out for -- thereby explaining the quickly widening gap between new NT sales over Unix sales.

>>>ms was fledging on 3.5, i have the 5.0 beta and the product continues to improve. novell continues to drop in the important area of new sales.<<<

The time it takes for NT to advance technologically is the window of opportunity for Schmidt to turn Novell around. I believe he admitted that it is crucial this occurs in 1998.

It's obvious that there are a lot of "if's" in Novell's future, which is why I cut my losses last year, but I wouldn't count them out just yet.
