Here's my movie scorecard:

On a scale of 1 - 10,

5 points go for doing what they set out to do. That is to say, if it was a comedy, it made you laugh and if it was mystery it kept you guessing and so on.

3 points go for acting and cinematography. I put them together because they both boil down to visual charm.

And 2 points are for going above and beyond the film mandate in the #1. For example showing good drama in a comedy (like some episodes of the TV show MASH did) or making you ponder after a thriller and so on.

This has actually been my scorecard for many many years when someone asks me to rate a movie.
