Since our Russia experts proceed on the assumption that you cannot believe a word he says, they are freed from all evidentiary restraint in their explication of what Putin wants. Since they rule out by hypothesis that he could conceivably have defensive motives, we are left with the choice of aims ranging from the aggressively obnoxious to the insanely aggressive.
I think this is a huge problem. Those “experts” start off their analyses by dehumanizing the leadership - and essentially, the population - of one of the 3 greatest nuclear powers - and dismiss in advance anything they may say. This is the opposite of wisdom and statesmanship — I don’t believe there is any way to “win” a full blown war.

Donald Trump always took care to proclaim his desire for peace and friendship. That is very smart - which is the opposite of brain dead dumb.
