I stand corrected re the IE 4.0..;-). However, I think you need to check out the newer systems under $1000. In todays Sunday ads, Best Buy and Office Depot are both offering the Compaq with:

233mhz
32 megs sdram
3.2 gb hd
20x cdrom
56k modem
2mb video ram

Circuit City is offering a Packard Bell for the same price and almost the same specs.

While I have the best modem available in the x2 line...a 3com Courier V. Everything, my ISP has decided to use 56 flex, so I am stuck at 28.8. However, even at that slow speed, I do not feel that my trading is hampered. I am hopeful that situation will change soon as I read in the paper today that a standard for 56k has been reached.
