But it will always be insane to have a large country on Russia’s border join NATO.
It’s been tried, in recent history - when Hitler occupied most of Eastern Europe and divided with Stalin the Baltics and Poland. That having been done, the USSR and Germany were facing each other across a long thin line. From that moment on, war was inevitable - regardless of any non-aggression treaties. Each side knew that the other side would be tempted to “surprise” - and afraid of being surprised.

So far, the notion of absorbing Ukraine into nato is the worst idea of this century - with Obama’s “Iran Deal” being the closest competition. I’m saying “so far” because the century is still young, only in its early 20’s.
