One last thing: rights and accountability are never a one-way street.

Using your perspective, one could argue that there should be no speed limit. That a child getting crushed while crossing the street lacked proper parents and proper upbringing and was responsible for checking the road while someone was driving double the speed limit and ran over them.

Given the right circumstances, anyone can be pushed to do anything. As a society, we need to make an informed and measured decision as to where the line between personal and corporate responsibility is. That line should not be based on some ideology and what feels right. It should be based on the compromise that produces the greatest good for the greatest number of people.
