Dipy:
I know we can go on for ever on this and this is not my intention but could not say one last thing after reading your comments.
You state: > As for the "pleasure generated from smoking" -- yes, there is such a thing, believe me! Whether that has a positive impact on mankind or not, is difficult to say -- in much the same way as it is difficult to say whether the millions of man-hours spent every evening slouching in front of TV watching sitcoms has a positive impact or not.
With all due respect, I do not seen any similarities between watching idiotic TV sitcoms and smoking! While watching sitcoms may harm ones barin and way of thinking/viewing the world, it does not have a negative impact on ones health physically. In contrast smoking does have such negative impacts both physically and mentally!!
You state: > My point was simply that blaming MO for any/all of our ills can quickly take us along that slippery slope where we might next start blaming fast-food companies, then alcohol companies, followed by soft-drink companies, followed by automobile companies... and on and on and on, until we could finally reach Playstation and Sony, and... LSI!
So do I take it that making drugs (such as heroin, cocaine, etc.) should also be freed?! After alll why put a limit on freedom?!!
As human beings living in a free society we do obey the laws and respect the freedom. However there is a fine line between resonable judgement and resonable thinking and taking advantage of the laws!
You state: > You fail to distinguish between a spirited defense of MO and arrogance (of the "nobody can mess with MO" type, which we saw Tony exhibit in the case of Intel).
hmmm... Was it not MO and its high paid lawyers that till a couple of years ago were hiding behind the first amendment and dissmissing all claims against them (regarding health problems) as simply none sense! I never forget the arrogance of MO chairman back in 95 when in an interview on 60 minutes simply called the government and all those who are after MO a bunch of jack-ass buecrats who thought the US should be run like Saudi Arabia!! Now, to me that was not "spirited defense" but rather pure arrogance! But then thats just me!
Anyway, lets get back to LSI and see what AMAT's earnings will do to the entire semi sector next Tuesday!
