My neighbor is a police consultant specializing in human trafficking. It is terrible. When people hear about it, they tend to picture naive girls being deceived and trapped into terrible conditions. And there is a lot of that. I've heard the horror stories from him.

But that is not the complete story. I saw this documentary about trafficking women from Eastern Europe to Asia and elsewhere. I came out of it feeling bad for the women, but also thinking that they were not naive innocent captives. A couple of them after being "rescued" ended up choosing to go down the same path again. So it seemed to me that at least some of them were choosing the less terrible option open to them. I am sure that they hear about human trafficking in Europe as much as we hear about it hear. Everyone has Internet these days.
