"Amateurs want to be right. Professionals want to make money."

Alan Greenspan

I was very wrong about the effects of Russia/Ukraine on the stock market. All I focus on or really care about is my individual stock picks, long and short and the value of my portfolio. I never thought about the effects of war, never thought it would effect the value of my portfolio. Guess I was somewhat naive. But if there was an affect, it was minor.

I understand the Russia/Ukraine inflation connection to the stock market now. War is inflationary and will drive up the price of crude oil and other commodities. But what does that have to do with my portfolio going up or down? I sold all my energy holdings last week based on the charts, not whether Ukraine/Russia were or were not going to war. I go long/short individual equities based on the charts and some fundamental considerations. I tend to ignore everything else. In that respect, I have tunnel vision.
