My wife's grandparents lived down the street from a cemetery. They had their headstone already installed before they passed. When we'd see it a year before we got married, it just looked creepy. To them, they were being practical.

My wife's grandparents were at our wedding. When we came back from our honeymoon, her grandfather was dead and her grandmother in the ICU. They had a car accident, totally their fault. The worst thing about it was they were going the wrong way down a freeway during construction, and they hit a 15-passenger van full of church kids head on. I don't know how many they killed or maimed. We were never told, and it was in the pre-internet days. I suspect the heavy van may have protected the passengers better than the Olds 98 did my wife's grandparents.

I have to say one of the strangest things we experienced as a family was living not far from a cemetery, and having one of Gladiator Daughter's 5th grade class mates being buried there. We watched as the grave was dug, knowing this sweet kid was going in there.

Gladiator daughter played hoops with the surviving twin on and off for about 5-years. The surviving twin has the same genetic issue her late twin had. As did her late mom and soon to be late older sister.
