In California, you get to call in for a week to see if you need to even go in - often you don't have to.

The, if you do have to go in, you may end up in the jury room where names are drawn out of a "hat." If your name is called, you take a seat and are questioned by both side until both sides think they have the best shot at getting the verdict they want.

The prosecution wanted me from the get-go and did what he could to get me to stick through the questioning.
