Frank, I can’t say much about how well the Russian military is trained - or equipped. I’d have to notice that they did rather well in Syria -- with a limited commitment, they managed to protect their client’s - and their own interests, saved Bashar Assad’s Alawite compadres from the encroaching ISIS forces (that would be a genocide, for sure). They even remained friends - and maintained cooperation - with Israel, while supporting and arming their enemies. I’d say, that was an impressive performance.
Remember that Russia fought literally hundreds of wars over the past 1000 years or so. They suffered many defeats as well, with their people being murdered - or shipped out, flooding the world's slave markets with blond, blue eyed slaves. Altogether, they can’t help but have a well developed geopolitical sense.
They also have - arguably - the largest nuclear arsenal. So, imho, they certainly are a credible opponent. It’s a pity that they’re being pushed away from the West - and into the arms of China… into a shotgun marriage, of sorts. |
