Re Ukraine going nuclear. I doubt this will happen. From what I see, in the unlikely event that Kiev does go rogue and develops nukes - it would still be a far lesser threat to world peace than NATO in eastern Ukraine. They would never use those nukes - and if any complications happened, there would be no need for anyone to start a world war. In short - our shores would be safe.

As far as Russia recognizing Luhansk and Donbas as independent nations…. Seems like a smart move by Russia. Achieves their main priority - no nato in Eastern Ukraine - with NO invasion. Also, sends a message to NATO and the rest of the west that they can ignore Russia at their peril. They will protect themselves.

Luhansk and Donbas, with their overwhelmingly Russian populations, were De Facto independent since 2014. And they were not coming back anyway.
