All: Re Quicken98 e-bill feature. Can't say I'm very impressed so far.

My experience -- details below -- doesn't reduce my bullishness on the potential for CKFR and e-bill generally, but it makes me doubt that Q98 will be the medium through which very many people use this service.

Only Florida Power & Light is currently online with Q98. The 100-plus billers mentioned in an earlier post are those that MAY come on in the future. (I get the impression that Quicken is collecting requests from Q98 users and will try to use those requests as leverage with the billers. But I see no promise any of them will actually bill through Q98)

However, in the hope that some of MY billers would soon be online with Q98, I signed up and just received a password in the mail from Intuit. The letter says: "...a summary of your bill will be available in Quicken. By selecting the bill summary, you will be connected to the website of your biller where you can review details of you bill."

This is NOT what I was expecting or hoping for. I was expecting that the "details" of the bill would be available within Q98, or at least at the Quicken.com website. Having to visit ALL the websites of ALL the billers to get "details" is sure to be kludgy and buggy and a royal pain in the patoot. Some of those websites will be sloooooow. Some will be down for maintenance. AOL (my ISP) often takes its time allowing me to shift from one site to another. Ugh!

I still think the way e-bill can and should work best is for banks to consolidate ALL a customer's bills on a single website. Q98 might be able to get some of this business IF they also consolidate. But that's not what they're doing, apparently.
