I doubt you have ever played the game of curling, but it depends of 'pebbled ice', ice with little bumps on it to help the stones slide. Late yesterday and into overnight large parts of the Lower Mainland east of Vancouver had a kind of freezing haze which resulted in deposits of pebbled ice on many roads which was then covered by snow.

Needless to say, the roads are a complete mess. Alas, as yet I have heard no reports of curling matches being played on the roads.

This will all thaw over the weekend as a system arrives from the Pacific and reinstates normal February weather, which I assume also portends warming for you as the Arctic air retreats back north.
