Actually, it is Putin who is doing "something stupid". The combination of Ukrainians themselves with the aid of NATO countries along with Russian mothers and protesters are what will defeat him in Ukraine. Putin is an idiot. This war will be his downfall, not his apotheosis. As has been usual in history, hubris leads to a fall.
