The problem with nuclear weapons is that you can’t use them. Using them involves a Masada complex, a decision to go out in a blaze of glory… a decision to go - and to take your enemies with you. For the most part, no survivors. No one wins.
In this context the conversational expression “you” simply means “no one”. It means that nuclear weapons are too powerful - to the point of being impractical. MAD is an absurdly idiotic strategy.

Indeed, since Hiroshima there were hundreds of wars and invasions - but nukes were never used even once. The reality is that it’s entirely possible to win or lose wars without making the planet uninhabitable.

The idea of widespread nukes so that nations could “defend themselves” is - IMHO - an end of the world scenario. The formerly great powers understood this a long time ago - which is why they developed non- proliferation agreements.

Somehow, this understanding was lost - and people like Obama / Kerry decided it’s OK for Iran to have a path towards nukes. And - you’re right - if Iran gets nukes, many other countries, including Saudi Arabia, will make sure they join the club ASAP. We will see a new nuclear arms race.
