Yes, it’s interesting. They are kind of “sympathetic” - to everyone. They want to be the adult in the room. They want to be the voice of reason - positioned to score a diplomatic victory while saving everyone’s (and their own) bacon. Well, if so, I wish they succeed. Ultimately, the Russians are not interested in controlling a country they can’t control - or, in killing too many of their cousins. The issue will have to settle. Since the West only keeps wrecking their brains how to better damage Russia's economy - maybe it is China's turn to offer something constructive.
