Thanks to the advances in IT, computational biology is progressing rapidly. But the rest of medicine is still in the dark ages. And I really mean that. We still don't know how most drugs work. It is still witchdoctor stuff of testing a magic potion and see if it is better than no potion at all. We are still discovering new organs and new pathways. Which is the say we have a rudimentary understanding of the physiology. Better than before, but still rudimentary. Until relatively recently, medicine was all about memorization. There was little in the way of actually figuring out what is going on, because for the most parts doctors don't know what is going on. IT and genomics are acting like a torchlight that hopefully will shed some light and further our understanding.

Now as to the Star Trek medical magic - funny you should say that. One of their best medical devices was the "bone fuser". A magic wand that you pointed at fractured bone and healed it. This morning I was reading about a real version of that. It turns out that someone has figured out that by directing sound waves at stem cells you can turn them into bone cells. So the bone fuser is not too far away. There are also advances with regards to implementing the tricorder. The non-medical version is further along. But there are some advances for the medical one too.
