People are tribal and territorial. This trait is biological, not cultural. Wolves constantly patrol the edges of their turf; strangers are attacked on sight. Homo SoCalledSapiens has to work very hard to restrain this instinct, and we never do it very well. The foundation of civilization is not killing strangers. And assigning a value higher than zero to Other’s lives.
