The US talks a good game about democracy, but when the wrong people are elected democratically in foreign countries, the US often finds ways to create problems for them or not recognize them at all. Hamas was democratically elected in a fair and internationally observed election, and the US refused to recognize them. The previous Ukraine government was democratically elected, and the US orchestrated a coup to get rid of them. Whether it is Chile, Egypt, Jordan, or any of the other places the US didn't like the leaders, it's a really common outcome.
