That is partly due to increasing copays, deductibles, and out of pocket max limits for those that have insurance. I know someone that has insurance provided by his firm where the 'best' policy he can choose has a deductible of 5k, and it gets worse from there. Sucks. Only good thing about getting old here is Medicare, as I posted before, the bill a couple months back for an ER visit for my wife's back pain was over 16k. Medicare has a zero deductible and they covered it. That visit also found some lung polyps that the doctors wanted her to have checked out, so her pulmonologist ordered a PET scan. Medicare paid, but that test was billed at 5k. Everything turned out OK, but she is going to have two additional CAT scans this year to make sure. If you have great insurance, no problem. If not, you end up with the problem you posted about. AND, the trend is less and less workers have that 'great' insurance.
