We're at the early stages. Presumably western intelligence agencies will be doing their best to foment unrest in Russia's southern regions. It wouldn't be a shock if some well armed foreign fighters with a taste for Russian blood are already on their way.

Putin has not made many friends around the world. How folks from Syria and Chechnya and other war ravaged places might want a little payback? Don't expect to see any media coverage of such actions, but I suspect there may be some. War planners don't always account for second, third, and fourth order effects.

And then there are the dissidents in Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, etc.
