On balance, I agree with you. The key issue is how much pain are people willing to take on to help those unrelated to them. I have already heard some Republicans ask why should the Americans carry any hardship so that Ukraine can remain independent. So long as Ukraine manages to win the hearts of the world get them to identify with them, they have a winning chance. But relying on public sentiment is a precious thing. There is a balance to be struck between the various aspects. If the Americans take more than they are comfortable with, then the support will suddenly collapse. So again, be careful what you wish for. I suspect Zelenskyy is aware of this and this is why he wants harder commitments while he is ahead with the public. I really don't want to live through another cold war. The general consensus in the equity markets is that this is too costly and with so much on the line eventually some agreement will be hammered out. But I am not so sure. This has the potential to be very very bad.
