Thanks, that’s a very interesting thread. People think that an authoritarian ruler is like some old time eastern absolute despot who can chop your head off if the teal was cold or something. Not so fast - in order to be effective, a guy like Putin (and anyone like him) must rely on a very sophisticated network consisting of several elites. If those people in general become disappointed in that leader, he may easily find himself out the door.

The Soc science professor writing it is smart - but she seems to be influenced by the - perhaps understandable - Russophobia, common among people of Eastern European descent. She has it in her pinned twit, I think - that if Kiev falls, Warsaw and Vilnius and all others will be next. This is understandable, but it’s mistaken. Those days are gone. Will never happen. The Russians would be lucky to resolve their conundrum with the nato - Ukraine axis.

There are seasons for everything. Their imperialistic impulse is spent. Just like there was no Napoleon in France since the early 19 century - there won’t be any “Napoleon” coming from Russia.
