The damaging rumors he is referring to are generated
from Wall Street and being hyped in the press, which
in turn creates after shocks on Wall Street. His
"we have defied the odds before and we can do it again"
refers to Netscape - not Netscape+IBM et al.

I'm long here and would love a buyout, but these are
company statements obviously made public to curb
speculation.
