When the diamond rush first got going a question which often came up was " Why werent the big outfits more aggresively trying up ground and buying up every junior that looked like it had a shot at an economic pipe?" the answer of course is the same for any mining situation. The majors can afford to sit back and wait untill they know who has got what.
The Diamet deal with BHP was unique in that Fipkie was optioning off a cluster of pipes. Kennecot then did deals with those holding the surrounding ground.Aber, SUF, DHK etc.
Debeers came in with MPV on their terms.
The moral of the story is the big outfits can afford to wait to see who has what and then they can afford to make you a deal too good to refuse.
As for WSP when they find and prove up the illusive source then it will get interesting.
OFF TOPIC ASIDE: Dont ever spill a coffee or anything else into the keyboard of your computer. It just took me six hours to get mine back up and running, all except a couple of keys.
