My personal opinion - Russia would love to have the Russian speaking Odessa. But they will never have it. And I hope they know this. Looking at the map, that would cut Ukraine off from the Black Sea. Ukraine wouldn’t go for it, EU and the US would not find it acceptable. And - it would make the broader geopolitical situation in the region less stable. It’s no longer the 18th century and Putin ain’t Cathrine the Great.
