We saw the new "West Side Story" last night. It was very well done, and I have no problems with some of the small changes they made to settings and back stories. Letting Rita Moreno sing that reprise was a nice touch too.

But I'm not convinced it needed to be remade. The new version just reminded me how amazing Bernstein's music is and how well he adapted the Shakespearean plot. You could remake the film version of "Jesus Christ Superstar" too with an actual budget this time, and it would look 1000 times better. But it wouldn't change the power of the music and the story.
