It may surprise you that most Iranians, Cubans, etc deem America to be a far more dangerous place than their homeland. And the issue is not just limited to physical safety. I've heard Muslim women say that while legally they have fewer rights back home, culturally they enjoy greater rights than the American women do. For example it is perfectly acceptable for a woman to take time off to take care of a sick child without any backlash at work because it is culturally understood that her first duty is to her family. Nobody would fault her for doing so.
