Good points. Notice that both the 1st and the 2nd Triumvirates occurred in the late stages of the Roman Republic, when problems started coming up which their constitutional Republic could no longer handle. They were 3 man oligarchies. The 2nd one ended after Octavian won the long struggle, filled with civil wars - and became an authoritarian ruler, Augustus. The Republican system continued, but in name only. Like in RINO.
