Scott and TS,

I didn't think much of MS's Windows CE at first as the Newton seemed to be a much more elegant PDA. Now, though, I can see Gates' concept - put Windows everywhere. While he has an ugly system now - he certainly has a head start in getting Windows to permeate everyone's life - eek! What is Apple's hope against this juggernaut? Some possibilities:

1. Push the speed advantage as hard as possible by putting 1 and 2 GHz chips from IBM and Motorola into computers ahead of schedule - way ahead, 1998.

2. Show Macs running Windows in emulation at essentially Pentium speeds.

3. Get enterprise going with Rhapsody ASAP. The enterprise area is where Microsoft is winning the world. Maybe it's too late for Apple here?

4. Make cooler machines - win back the laptop/notebook world with speed, elegance, and innovation. Lets see 8 to 12 mm thick folding notebooks with full a screen on one side and a half screen and keyboard on the other so you could put it in your lap like a book. You could then enter text and draw directly on the screens if you wish, or enter data with the keyboard. The shorter screen could hold all those palettes that usually come with drawing programs while the large screen could just have the artwork. The Newton software could be melded with the Mac OS, perhaps even incorporating the StrongArm processor, for handwriting recognition and organizer functions. The organizer functions of the Newton are pure elegance.

I just hope it ain't too late.

Jeff
