Little doubt American and NATO wars violated UN charter, these wars were not authorized by UN Security Council In case of Iraq the violation was so severe that the coalition of the willing was attacking Iraq, rather than whole NATO. Some countries refused to participate. I am not saying Russia didn’t do so - of course it did! But, I and ggersh would argue that the bloodshed esis about Russia not feeling secure with its nato neighbors sharing a land border with her. The conflict would not start should the question of Ukrainian nato membership.
A legitimate cause of war in the UN is self defense. One can argue a preemptive strike to avoid thousands of nuclear ICBMs on the border from which Russia has no time to hide or defend (already happened in FSU countries turned NATO) as self defense, but I am not a lawyer. It comes darn close in my book! Well there was no aggression, NATO says. GFY and I don’t care, Russia says. Sanctions, NATO says. Fuck you, and if your troops step on Ukrainian soil, I will nuke each and every one of your countries, Russia says. The Conflict in a nutshell. My answer is, Russia actions are, in fact, self defense defense against losing WW3 before it even starts.
It does not help its ethnic Russians who are used as cannon fodder, not Ukrainian nationalists. |
