Andrew,

<< Question 1: Why is SyQuest developing a 4.7 GB drive?

What is the market for a 4.7 GB drive? DVD/DVD-ROM developers?
I'd guess that this market is perhaps 50,000 users to be very
generous. If someone here would purchase such a drive, I'd like to know why. >>

Corporate users that deal with lots of data might find the Quest to be a much faster and more attractive alternative to the PD/MO high-capacity drives for keeping lots of on-line data.

In particular, the Quest drives are designed to be auto-load/eject so expect to see it in automated jukeboxes. For very large data storage warehouses, this may be the economical solution for archiving information in an easy-to-record, easy-to-retrieve system.

Expanding on this further, this could also be a potential mechanism for doing enterprise backups. (Back up every computer in the office, each machine backed up to its own Quest cartridge.)

Potentially, jukebox applications would have a very high tie-ratio for catridges.
