He wrote the text “as if” from the point of view of John Quinsy Adams - who, Codevilla thinks, would not look for opportunities to get in Russia's way (and v. versa). In other words, by this logic, had we leadership of the JQA caliber, this current war would not have happened.

Edit - it’s not just Joe. It’s many, many years of bureaucratic busybodies running our FP establishment. On top of their “normal” lack of seriousness, they are now hooked up with the communistic “One-Worlders”.
