I've been wondering about The Duran - what's in their name, what are they aiming for? Haven't found the answer to the name yet, but I think I found what they are aiming for in their symbolism. They use the double headed eagle on their branded swag. Interesting that Russia uses this symbol now, and we don't.

I thought that might mean The Duran was biased toward Russia, but this find about the history of the double headed eagle symbol makes me think they are not. I don't know what our founders were thinking, but the bald eagle is our own North American bird, so it could be as simple as that. Plus it's a real animal, so we're not getting into weird mythical creatures. Emulating Russia, but keeping it real?

BTW, a few years ago a Steller's Sea Eagle from Russia made its way over here. It is also black and white, but a lot more white and a different shape. It was very strange and unique (and probably lonely - no others have been sighted.) I spotted it myself before it had made the news. Thought it was a freak bald eagle, but someone later identified what it was and that made the local news. Steller himself was a wanderer.
