Well, another week, another story for the Charity Biotech Sock Picking Contest. A good week for the market generally, not so great for Biotechs, with the S&P Biotech index shedding almost 3%. Interesting enough, the contestants generally outperformed the Biotech sector generally, the median portfolio losing only 0.3%. That isn’t to say that there weren’t some significant action for individual listings for the week, SPPI (+48%) on the upside, VLON (-73%) and MEIP (-65%)being the big movers. There was enough volatility that the many of the entries in the Top 10 Portfolios list went up or down 2 or 3 places. (Welcome (once again) RKRW and STOICNORSKI). Which is to say, as we close out on the first quarter of the contest, that there’s a lot more to come.
