we talk about China..
the Chinese are 'porkers'.. they eat well, even wasting food is understood to be an example of wealth & well being. something unheard of years ago in a country that had experienced a lot of famine.

China is currently the 2nd largest economy in the world, projections #1 within 10yrs. China is not Zimbabwe.

I don't think anyone is keeping China down.. they willingly took the mantle of economic liberalization +40 yrs ago or so, & ran with, but at the cost of damaging their environment.
I'm thinking somewhere I read.. Chinese are way better off financially, but pollution costs has reduced lifetime expectancy.
they take that to the bank when they die fast & hard.
