Based on my understanding of the pre-history and the reasons for this war, I never doubted for a moment that Kiev would not be taken. It IS possible to reach agreements without taking a nation's capital.

Taking Kiev would cost a large number of casualties on both sides - and, likely, even more civilian casualties. And what for?? So, both sides can sit down and sign some papers?

Destroying the Azov organization and showing military superiority (despite heroic resistance from the other side) — should be enough for reaching an agreement. Prez Z was ready to make a deal along the Minsk lines after about one week. But those to whom he’s dumb enough to listen are determined to give Russia yet another Afghanistan - which would lead (once again) to a regime change.
