Re: Young Folk Portfolio ... Tax Loss Selling

Back in January I trimmed a few positions, some were laggards and other positions were trimmed in anticipating market weakness, and I wanted to take some profits before the market did. I took those profits to fill out the portfolio with companies I wanted to add but due to their high share prices, I didn't have enough cash to work with. I was able to finally buy and/or build positions in TSLA, GOOGL and AMZN.

In making these moves I generated a good amount of capital gains and I needed to offset those gains if possible. The only assets I have in the taxable account that are showing a loss are the CEF's. So, today I sold AIO and BST.

I have been using the CEF's to generate cash to be invested elsewhere and I didn't want to lose the income these assets generate, so I purchased positions in ARDC and EXG.

The two assets I sold generated:

Balance - $8,268
Income - $625
Yield - 7.56%

The new assets will generate:

Balance - $8267
Income - $703
Yield - 8.51%

In addition to increasing the yield, I increased the income by 13.92% and I get the benefit of the tax due amount being lowered.
