This reminds me of a tiny town in north-central Arkansas called Damascus -- which sits on a busy stretch of US highway. It is remembered by many as the site of a missile silo explosion in 1980 in which its armed 10 megaton nuclear warhead was found a few hundred feet from the silo. And the ensuing freak-out.
It was also home of one of the most egregious speed traps I ever saw; I had three tickets there over a period of five or so years. It was so bad the state finally took away their right to write tickets. They had 308 residents, but in Arkansas they have a law that a municipality that makes more than 30% of its revenue from tickets is subject to having their right to write tickets taken away, and it was.

In 2019 they talked the state to giving them their ticketing privilege back. I've long since quit making that drive but it did slow me down after getting three tickets but I never saw that it served any purpose. It was as in the middle of nowhere as you could get.
