Mariupol is badly damaged. May be related to the fact that the fighters in that region are the Azov brigade or battalion, or whatever they are. It seems, they have many thousands of fighters. And - despite their cruelty (or because of it, since they’ll be likely tried as criminals) they fight well.

Can’t say that Russia’s army in Ukraine is so vast. It is about 200,000 - not much. Ukraine's military is much larger (according to Ritter, 600K) - and they’re well trained and armed. Fresh after 8 years experience of fighting Donbas.

I really can’t judge a war without taking into account the events that led up to it. This one has been in the making for many years. Prof. Karaganov in the article I posted says he realized in 1997 that this unfortunate war was increasingly likely to happen.
