I think Motorola's rolling out of CDMA phones is critical to QCOM's future. With its global footprint and size, it will really help to widespread the use of CDMA phones in the world. Just think MOT can put commercials on everywhere and claim its superiority on CDMA. That will really help. QCOM simply does not have the brand and financial support to do so itself. That is also very important to have QCOM and Korean companies supply CDMA phones at this stage. (Although Qdog may not like it!!! (ggg)) So are other biggy like NT, LU, NEC, Sony,etc.
You have to remember GSM and TDMA has the early lead everywhere around the world. However, the tide changed. That is why GSM and TDMA groups claim 3g WCDMA standard instead of 3g GSM. If current GSM and TDMA was that good to consumers and operators, why in the hell these groups need a WCDMA? They can continue the parade and leave QCOM's CDMA to the dust. QCOM is such a small fish. Do you not feel among these heavy hitters in the telecommunication industry?
It takes time for QCOM (in fact, all other biggy helps) to penetrate to the rest of the world with CDMA networks and phones. It will not be a one time shot. In fact, the speed to spread out Sprint PCS, Primeco PCS, and all other CDMA digital cellular networks can be described as a huge success so far. There is no doubt about it . Just wait and see.
In the mean time, a Globalstar or Iridium phone will best serve you as a global traveler, I guess. Do you really think it will be a global standard among these groups any time soon? Dream on!!!!! I think Globalstar and Iridium's success in part counts on the non successful attempt to globalize the landline wireless standard.
I think a Globalstar phone is a better "dream" than any other choice out there or in the dream.
