Penn had been to Ukraine and was meeting with Zelenskyy the day before the war started. So, he had a lot of insight into what was going on there.

I don't like Penn, either. But he really, for me at least, was able to convey some information about Zellensky's state of mind, and the problems of not being able to get the materiel to defend themselves, it was just really informative and compelling, IMO.
